Have THBC stopping delivering to UK?

Can you import from Eire without delays? To keep NI in EU when the rest of the UKleft was lunacy. Shame they never worked it out before Brexit.

It was baked into hard Brexit - everyone told them that the Good Friday Agreement assumed an open border with the Republic, and that hard Brexit would therefore move the border into the Irish Sea, but they just didn't care. It also didn't help that Johnson appears not to have known what he was signing in November 2019 "there will not be checks on goods going from Northern Ireland to Great Britain" and five months ago : "there will be no border down the Irish Sea – over my dead body".

But that's where we've ended up. As another data point, I was feeling smug yesterday about an order placed a few days ago for a non-brewing item which had been dispatched just before they made an announcement that the store was no longer sending to the UK. It was an international company which was rather vague about where its warehouse is, I assume it must have been inside the EU (Ireland?).

I then felt a bit less smug when I got an email today saying that the parcel had been returned to them from the courier on "paperwork makes this too complicated at the moment" grounds and they were refunding my payment. A used one sold on Ebay today at a premium of >50% over the cost of a new one!

DPD UK announced on Friday that they were suspending shipments to the EU, promising an update yesterday in the hope of starting again today but I can't find such an update. They were having to return 20% of parcels for having incomplete/incorrect data (this maybe is what happened to my parcel?), I guess it helps that a lot of their shipments will be below the £135/€150 limit for customs duties (and that limit is something to bear in mind when ordering from the EU/NI).

DPD Ireland have a statement updated today saying that they're open for business and the UK is suspending most customs requirements until the end of March. It's almost like staying in the Single Market and Customs Union might have been a good idea.

It's not just DPD - DB Schenker are one of the biggest logistics companies in the world and they're struggling. They've suspended their services between UK and EU because 90% of consignments have a problem with the paperwork - and if one consignment in a load has the wrong paperwork, it stops the whole shipment. They're more industrial logistics though, so I guess most of their consignments are over the £135 limit.

The saga continues I’m afraid...

My order with THBC has, according to DPDs tracking system, been in their possession since the 6th and clearing customs since the 8th.

A moment ago DPD text me saying that I must pay 22% import duty by Jan 12th or my parcel will be returned to the sender. 🤷‍♂️

I’m loving this situation more and more.

Mine says with customs since the 6th and if they try to charge more it gets returned. But I've had a couple of scam mails from someone claiming to be DPD so watch out.

I’ll admit to being a touch confused by all of this, but that doesn’t sound right to me. While delays due to customs checks are to be expected, I don’t think there should be duty on homebrew ingredients. Tread carefully on that one I think given what we’ve heard about scams, but it could also be genuine and a mistake (or genuine and correct for all I know!). EDIT to add: after the posts below from @Gerryjo I guess maybe it is right if the order cost over the £135 threshold. But 22% sounds high given that THBC will have charged VAT.

I did an order from GEB last Thursday that arrived via DPD on Monday, so I guess I just got in ahead of too much chaos and ahead of DPD suspending NI-GB shipments.

If I’ve understood all of this correctly, there should be no difference for a GB consumer (e.g. me) between buying from GEB (NI) or THBC (Ire).

But I could be wrong (motto for life!)

There is no issue regarding customs from NI to GB but there is from ROI/EU to GB.There has been price rises amongst some suppliers which is to cover the cost of such things but everything is still chaos and with backlogs happening some are suspending operations to GB until it's all ironed out for a smoother transition especially with perishable items.

Ah ok so a DPD lorry full of parcels from NI travelling from Belfast to Liverpool is treated differently from a DPD lorry full of parcels from Ireland travelling from Dublin to Holyhead. In addition, such a DPD lorry could travel freely between NI and Ireland collecting parcels from both, but would then be treated as if it were full of parcels from Ireland?

Is that about right, if oversimplified?!

It's bad enough having no access to supplies for our hobby and it's worse for us here if we are looking from the UK.Here are some points of news that are affecting us in NI as a whole.

Some firms have stated they were informed that certain declarations would be processed within 30 seconds only for it to take in the region of 12 hours
Supermarkets withdrawing hundreds of products from their shelves, online retailers refusing to service Northern Ireland
Of the 15 lorries to arrive in NI from GB on the first shipment under the terms of the protocol, six were directed to a border control post because they did not have the correct documentation
In the absence of guidance from HMRC, which was belatedly published on 31 December, many online retailers made the decision not to service NI.

I live minutes from the border and to be fair I prefer to shop in ALDI and unfortunately has no stores in NI but has one 25mins away in Buncrana which is over the border but is being manned by Gardai due to covid19 restrictions and with lockdown here I couldn't travel even if there wasn't border restrictions.

Bangon....
I can order from THBC today and will be here Saturday but if I order same grains from a UK based supplier they will still have to fill out customs clearance but no duty to be paid as we come under the EU law although NI is still in the UK be it with an invisible border in the Irish sea and another invisible border with ROI.Hows that for a screwball.

I got slapped with a 40 quid import fee. I've emailed Shane, but I'm guessing there's nothing I can do but either return it or suck it up. I'm inclined to suck it up as I want the gear and Brexit isn't HBC's fault (or mine actually, but let's not get overly political :P).

This does need clarifying as if such a load was being collected by hauliers which they do and was going to France it would be okay but if going to the UK mainland it would have two sets of customs clearance for simplicity as although both come under EU law for goods/agriculture etc there is customs clearance and duty to be paid on ROI but only customs clearance for NI as there is no duty as its in the UK and this is causing such a headache with the deal being last minute and no certainty of what's what or who pays what and those not having the correct paperwork and it goes on.
