It came as 62,322 new cases were recorded, the highest daily rise since mass testing began ( 8< )
I was disgusted to see staff in my local Tesco not even wearing masks on the tills behind the counter... "we don't have to" because of the screens".

People should not just be doing what they are told is the minimum necessary, they should be doing everything that they can.

We are in a war zone at the moment and we need to improve our handling of it as one nation not 4. I would suggest a coalition government made up of members of the Tory, Labour parties, Scottish and Welsh Parliaments and the NI assembly and major city majors. One message, one plan , leadership not dithering and U turns.
Sounds good.
But I can't see that working in a million years.
Piffle-Paffle would necessarily be in charge and he would continue to do what he's good at.
If it could be engineered that Niki the FIsh were in charge, then maybe.

Just been watching Parliament today on TV. Not many MPs there, but of the ones that attended, not a mask in sight.

That sounds to much like common sense not something our politicians are known for.

Couldn’t agree more. It has been very confusing and conflicting aswel as being used as a political football since the start. When really it should be the whole country singing from the same hymn sheet. Covid knows no borders in the UK. We all have friends colleagues or relatives in different parts.

Have you ever wore a face covering for more than a few minutes i have and its really uncomfortable imagine having to wear one for hours on end when there is a huge screen dividing you from customers, they put screens in place to protect them and you if they thought the screen wouldn't protect you they wouldn't have put them in place, you mention Tesco what about fuel stations the ones round here have screens and the employees do not wear a mask when behind them.

I received a positive test result on Monday. I was telling the track and trace guy last night that the only time in the last 2 weeks that I've been indoors with anyone other than those I live with was when I collected a turkey (click and collect) on Christmas Eve. And my wife and kids didn't go anywhere at all either. I met my sister twice out of doors only for a walk and a bike ride, but she is the only person outside of my immediate family I've seen (she tested positive a day before me). And I didn't get close to her. My conclusion is that this new variant must be incredibly contagious

I hope that they were "social distancing". Not being done behind the counter in the mini-tesco, for sure.

Yes, of course I have worn a mask for more than a few minutes, as I hope the vast majority of others do. It's fine. If it's uncomfortable, use a different mask or get used to it, after all in subtropical Japan they routinely wear masks for extended periods, and have done so for decades, and if they can there, I am sure we can here. Even most athsma suffers can wear masks, even though I've heard some some pathetic people try to use a bleat of "I've got asthma" as an excuse (athsmatics can see athsma UK for guidance; if they had very bad athsma, guess what, they would certainly not want to expose themselves to the possibility of being infected with SARS-CoV-2).

The screen is largely an irrelevance when non-socially distanced employees are behind it, who also work on the shop floor itself. The screen's to stop staff-customer (either way) transmission, just as masks are. Masks are NOT designed primarily to protect the wearer, that's a very minor second function, I wish people had all understood that by now after all this time.

If in fuel stations people work socially distanced or solo, that's fine. If not, exactly the same goes for employees there, or anywhere else for that matter.

Disgraceful.

Again: People should not just be doing what they are told is the minimum necessary, they should be doing everything that they can.

Over a thousand gone before their time again today, I see. The people who "won't" do most certainly bear some responsibility.

It would appear you have moved the goal posts, you said "I was disgusted to see staff in my local Tesco not even wearing masks on the tills behind the counter" you appear to be now saying non socially distanced employees behind the screens, well i don't know which branch of Tesco you visit but that is not how it works here and as i have said many times here my son works in our local Tesco so i do know what i am talking about if these employees were breaching Tesco policy did you make a complaint to the management seeing how disgusted you were with their actions?

Here are the government guidelines on work station safety feel free to read through the PDF, i have posted the relevant one below PowerPoint Presentation (publishing.service.gov.uk)

Well good luck to you, Oneflewover. Keep clear of everybody would be my advice. Hope it lets you off lightly, and the thing is not to infect others.
Now if it were me. I'd retire to the arctic wastes of my potting shed and dig up the supplies of mushroom vodka I had stashed away against just such an eventuality. You can't infect people if you don't mix with them.

Many thanks, Chippy. I wasted ages today listening to Bojo not answering any questions, and that little runt Gavin abusing women from the other side and not answering any questions either. I thought we had a bit of a crisis on our hands, but apparently not. The show still rolls on.

Thanks my good man. Don't worry I shall keep myself to myself, although looks like the wife and kids have it too. I'm ok so far, I have a cough but no trouble breathing, fatigue, headache. Oddest thing is the feeling of being spaced out all the time. I've also lost my senses of taste and smell almost completely.

I shall sacrifice a libation to the gods on your behalf. Hang on in there.
Family, too.

Hang in there bud, i hope you are all ok, lock yourself in the man cave with several flagons of the strong stuff, i with An will raise a glass to you and your family

And? So there are three tills, plus a couple of self-dervice ones, and a machine (?) in the corner, backing onto the cigarettes and (ISTR) spirits, with non-masked employees passing each other, rubbing shoulders, and sitting down to chat when it's quiet.

My local mini-Tesco.

Yes, of course I have made a complaint, as I did before, and probably will have to again, with photos, which I suppose I could publish, if necessary. I can get these from the street.

Again: People should not just be doing what they are told is the minimum necessary, they should be doing everything that they can. If you disagree with that, I'd love to hear your reasons.

Good man. Hopefully you won't develop COVID-19 from your infection. Losing your sense of taste must be awful ;) Good luck.

As i said above my son works in Tesco part time he works in all departments including the tills they do not allow staff members to mingle in the areas you have discussed in their store and its one of the big ones, going back to the original point the screens are there to protect staff and customers there is no reason for them to wear a mask as at no point should both be near enough for it to be an issue.

Well, they are mingling! If they can't pass each other at more than a 2m distance, which they can't, even if they did care, they should wear masks! Whether Tesco's at fault, or the employees are at fault, or both are at fault, does not matter. It's happening. It IS disgusting.
