hey guys and girls,
my question is simple how to work out the alcohol % anyone know? am sure you do.

Easiest way is to use the site calculator, top left of any page
Put in the original gravity and the the final gravity then click calculate :thumb:

I'm probably stating the bleedin' obvious but will do so anyway.

Although SG readings are always written to three decimal places (example 1.040), when you're calculating abv you lose the 1. bit, so if your brew starts at 1.044 and finishes at 1.008, your ‘drop’ is 44 - 8 = 36, divide that by 7.36 and you get 4.9% abv.

7.36 is only one approximation . . HMCE tables are the de-facto standard for alcohol calculations . . . frankly I go by every 10 degree OG ~= 1% . . . which is close enough for me
