I'm making a lager too, a bock. I plan to get a few lagers on.
3 kg Munich 1
2.5 kg pilsner
500g caramunich 1
60g carafa 2

I'm looking for OG around 1.065 and an FG around 1.012 for a beer knocking on 7% ABV. Will mash quite low hoping for a relatively highly fermentable wort.

Tettnanger to 25 IBU with equal additions at 60 and 30 mins. I'm trying CML Hell yeast x2. @ 12 degrees C - never used liquid yeast for lager as I only have a 2 litre flask for starters.
Close enough - 20 litres at 1.060ish. My efficiency always sucks. Liking the colour of this wort

Have managed a couple of brew days this week after far too long a break. Tonight I have bottled a Dave Line Webster's Yorkshire Bitter, my first with Windsor yeast which fermented ferociously quickly and hit the target FG of 1010 in four days. In the fermenter is my first attempt at an all grain Taylor's Landlord clone following the GW recipe - used an out of date Wyeast West Riding yeast, which seems to be doing just fine. Tonight I started an all grain Theakstons Old Peculiar with my other out of date yeast - a White Labs WLP002 - fingers crossed!

I didn't brew anything but I did keg my latest Belgian pale with Saaz and Kazbek hops. I have a porter that needs packaged up as well. I am undecided weather to bottle this or keg. Leaning towards bottling

I'm brewing the oatmeal stout discussed on the 'Darkening beer' thread.

So far, so good! :D

Just bottled my latest porter this time I used verdant IPA yeast. It's coming in just shy of 6%. I reduced the carbonation down to 1.7 Vols, it's the minimum for the style according to the charts.
This should be good for next month's competition 👍

Oatmeal stout came out as 1048 OG for 67% BHE. I'm happy with that, as oaty brews are usually down a bit on efficiency from my normal ,around the 70% mark, so satisfied. Was actually originally 1050, and I added half a litre of water.

High hopes for this one!

I used my Klarstein Maischfest for the first time to get a porter underway. Have only brewed 5l batches on the stove up to this point, so 15l is a step up. Seemed pretty straightforward, but the proof of the pudding is in the drinking.....

Seemed alot less hassle than the stove method and went pretty well apart from the temperature shooting up at one point in the mash from 67C to 74C for no apparent reason, and the internal thermometer giving a false reading when cooling - at one point, when 2 independent thermometers said 21C, it read 39C (although it did slowly creep down).

Cleaning was pretty easy too, thanks to the white vinegar tip I'd read on this forum somewhere.

After an anxious wait an out of date WLP 002 yeast has made a good start with my GW Old Peculiar clone. I'm hoping this yeast will leave a bit more sweetness compared to the MJ New World Strong Ale yeast I used last time. My rudimentary fermenter (aka a bucket) must not be sealed as the airlock wasn't bubbling. Not a problem I'll have with today's arrival I hope!

Last night I brewed the next version, and a bigger batch, of my Chocolate Oatmeal Stout, following advice from the forum on how to improve mouthfeel and body.

All went well, mashing for 60 minutes at 67degC, although I dropped that to 66degC as the Klarstein has a habit of overshooting the mark when maintaining the target temp - it went up to 70degC, meaning the mash was between 66 and 70 for the first 15 minutes before I realised. I also lost more to the boil than usual, which must have been due to the vigorous boil in an outdoor temperature of 2degC!

Efficiency lower than normal too - was planning to get 20L into the FV at 1.046 but ended up a litre short to maintain the OG. So, 19L into the FV and hoping to finish at 1.012/1.014. I think it was due to a larger strike volume than usual, and I rushed the sparge. Next time, I'll have a brew day when there are no distractions like kids dinners/baths/bed time. Infact, for my next brew day (a Cali Common) I think I'll take a sneaky holiday when the wife is working and the boy's at school. The things you need to do to get a brew on!

Cheers!

Is that celeriac the vegetable, or some kind of hop? 😕

Batch of Irish stout currently mashing. I was well pleased with the last batch, so as long as I can manage repeatability, and I think I can these days, well, what could possibly go wrong? :confused.: :D
