Hey everyone

Well I just strained my elderflower and the last DJ is missing about 1/4 of liquid which is down to the fact that I topped up my elder from 1 gallon to 2 whilst in the FV and the layer on top was so thick I couldn’t guess where it stopped so I am now lacking in fluid.

Would cooled boiled water be ok to top up with or should I use WGJ?

Also when straining I noticed quite a few little pin head size black bugs. Now all bar 1 small bush in my area have these bugs on the stalks and I only cut off the heads but obviously some of them were on the petals despite a good rinsing. They are floating to the surface and I can remove 90% with my turkey baster and sacrificing a little liquid, will they hurt my wine?

Cheers guys & gals

As your OG is now back down to a more acceptable level, I would top up with WGJ.

A few bugs are inevitable with elderflower and shouldn't hurt, were they scalded?

Yep water was boiled then poured over within 30 seconds or so, "Burn baby burn", WGJ will do
