Right chaps, next brew I want to use some Citra that arrived last week. Really into the idea of a hoppy yet dark summer ale (kind of like a black IPA), so what do you think of this:

46 litre brew length
Mash at 66 degrees
Assuming 70% efficiency (the Amarillo IPA I made on Friday just about confirms this)

Grist:
MO: 9825g
Crystal: 528g
Black malt: 125g
Torrefied wheat: 105g

Hops:
Fuggle: 60g for 75 mins (added as FWH)
Citra: 40g @ 20 mins
Citra: 30g @ 10 mins
Citra: 30g @ 5 mins

Beer engine comes out with a quaffable 4.7% and EBU of 45. I want lots of grapefruit/melon aroma without too much throat-smacking bitterness :D

I intend to ferment it with S-04.

What think you?

Haha, I think the term is "dark hoppy beer" now!

I started a thread similar to this about a...ahem...dark hoppy beer a few days ago, loads of interesting feedback!

Citra hop sounds great, good luck with it!

I think your going to end up with 40 pints of Black Cats P*ss, but that's just my opinion of CITRA, real marmite hop that one, I love the taste but the aroma is like a cats markings.

Hope you enjoy it though as plenty appear to think its a great hop.
