Bottled my Orange & Corriander Pale Ale yesterday and it didn't taste very promising (can't taste any orange at all).
So back to basics today with a single hop Citra pale ale.
4.5k Maris Otter, 250g Carapils. Chinook leaf for bittering and Citra BBC @ 10mins, 5mins and 1min. Dry hop with some more Citra after 10 days. LIberty Bell for the yeast.
Using my new Grainfather sparge water heater for the first time today after the Peco stopped working on the last brew. Can't complain, the Peco
lasted two years of quite heavy use.

I went for an Amarillo Citra pale ish thing today:

4.75kg of MO
250g of wheat malt

25g Amarillo at 60
25g Amarillo at 15
50g Citra at flame out.

Then will dry hop with 50g of Amarillo and 50g Citra.

Aiming for around 5%.

Just waiting for boil.
 
View attachment 18290 first night off so instead of sitting there feeling tired I decided to get off my a**e and bottle the two batches I had in the garage...a pale and fox bat bitter...got 83 all in! Tired now but glad it's done...couple of mishaps along the way...knocked the bottling tree off the table and bust two prongs off it,broke the auto Syphon bucket clip and soaked the kids school uniforms...
A very productive evening then, and the kids'll get a lot of kudos from going in to school smelling like a barmaid's apron.
 
Went for an old favourite, Summer Lightning. Had to get Maris Otter in specially and had forgotten that it doesn't yield quite as much as the other PAMs I use. Still, only a couple of degrees out and it'll still make 4.8-4.9 % abv. I love Hop Back beer and haven't tasted it for literally years. Must make an Entire Stout now I think of it. Good, honest, simple beers to be drunk by the gallon on sunny Sunday afternoons.
 
First batch on new Robobrew, an ESB, went well other than initially stuck mash and a lighter colour than planned.

Recipe said "dark crystal" which evidently was darker than what I have, so I guess I'll call it a strong amber ale? acheers.

Where did you purchase your Robobrew from if you don’t mind me asking?
 
Happily fermenting my attempt at a "Dark Ruby Mild" - 3.Kg Marris Otter, 1.3 Crystal 80, EKG and Fuggles in the boil.

Hoping to sample the real thing in Wandsworth this week, with a trip to the brewery later this year.

post arrived...nearly a kg of hops,yeast and some malt...pilsner,brown and Munich,..plus some bits for my pbs...not decided what to brew yet...porter,kolsch or IPA?
 
If you were using S-04 there is no need to aerate the wort, Fermentis don't recommend it, even after 2 or 3 sessions reclaiming of the yeast. I am not a bio chemist so I don't know how that works, but I have also noticed a lot of the dry yeast manufacturers are now advising the same thing. Since I read about this I have not re-hydrated or aerated wort, even using Crossmyloof yeast and it takes off just the same. Good video by the way.

Not quite as simple as that, even harvesting the yeast keeping it in a anaerobic condition it will still work for 2 or 3 times more without any aeration at all, after that the wort will need to be aerated.

all done...missed og by around 5 points or so but revised my sparge amount as something didn't seem right last brew. I got 24+ litres to fv which probably accounts for the missed gravity partly..I then measured my kettle loss...nearly 4 litres! That was after weighing a kilo of water and marking the jug...so there's the anomaly... hopefully!
Sparged slower with a litre at a time this time but still think my efficiency is rubbish...this time 67%.
Wort very clear and tastes great though...Wilko Gervin for this one!
 
Just finished 2nd. brew of this year, I've been lazy and drinking up my stock.
For 23lit
5kg Maris otter
500grm porridge oats, el cheapo from Aldi
60grm Cristal malt
90 min mash at 67c + 15 min mashout/dunk sparge at 75c
Total boil 35min
38grm Summit hops - first wort
25grm Citra + 25grm Centennial hops for a hop stand of 20 min at 75c so the IBU should be in the 55 mark
OG 1054, Yeast is Mangrove Jack West Coast (I think it's M44)
Plan to dry hop with 75grm each pf citra & centennial for 5 to 6 days once the gravity reaches 1015 to 1020
I brewed a very similar IPA last year and it went down a storm at my local home brew club.
