What are we using to soak all the gunk off kegs these days guys?
Just used a Fermenter King and the neck is too tight to get my arm into so need something to get rid of all the mess in there.

If you haven't got a dedicated alkaline cleaner the Oxi cleaners are the best substitute. Just use something like a cheap toilet brush if there is any stubborn krausen.

Bog brush! Great idea!
I use Astonish oxi from BM Bargains...£2.99 for 3kg...as said also great for cleaning the washing machine, dishwasher etc.

When tipping it out tip it into the toilet and let is sit there for a while, porcelain comes up sparkling.

Assume that’s basically the Wilko one but at half the price per kilo, if so may have to make a trip next time I need to stock up.

I think using a brush that's been cleaning the toilet is not a good way of cleaning your fermenter.
That's the difference between a socialist and a conservative, the socialist will consider using the same brush as he cleans the bog with, the conservative will spend $2 buying a new one for the purpose of cleaning a fermenter.

The Socialist will lend his fermenter brush to a fellow brewer or suggest they buy one together. The Conservative will set up a brush hire company.

Same here, Astonish Oxi that is, but will keep the bog brush thing in mind if I ever get a the Junior thingy.

If you have hard water then the regular ‘oxi’ products can leave a white residue.

For all my brewery cleaning I previously used PBW, which avoided the residue and was highly effective. Now I use ‘Chemclean’ as I can buy 5kg of it for for under £30.

When I clean a keg I will give it a good rinse out with the hose pipe, then put in a couple of spoons of cleaner and a kettle full of water with a bit of extra water to top it up. Give it a good shake, then leave it for a bit, coming back and shaking occasionally.

After soaking I will blow out some cleaner through beer lines, then empty and rinse.
