Just Bottle, my local tesco doesn't sell that many cask ales, just ghostship and one other doombar.

I'm pushing on with my 3 Rabbits Hoppy IPA to get rid of it After a 3.5hrs solid conference call finishing at 5pm, I need a couple of three pick me ups tonight.

Had a bit of time to do a mid week writeup so taking advantage of it.

Harlequin APA, although I'd call this an IPA.

Pours a hazy yellow copper color, with a nice white head. A bit hazy but expected
Aroma is surprisingly blackberry, citrus and some piney hops. Its very hoppy fragrant and I get really light bready malts in the background.
I was prepared for this one being a bitter hop bomb after a few descriptions from @Hazelwood Brewery which it kind of is, its very resinous and pine like hoppy and decently bitter but the bitterness surprisingly quickly fades making it drink a lot easier than the old school west coast hop bombs that ruin your palate for days. I am not getting any of the fruity aromas in the flavour and really little malt at all. It's a session ale after all.
Overall it's definitely a hop monster, but not in a bad way. It's surprisingly flavorful for the low ABV and it's a nice change in pace to all the fruity IPA's I have been brewing. I think this one would do a lot better at say 7% to help balance the hops a bit more.
Thanks for sending even though you didn't really want to. Looking forward to the other two I have chilling.

by the way are these bottles 500ml or 330s?

It actually gets better as you drink it, I think it must numb your bitter taste buds for a while!

I ordered my wife some more Mongozo Banana beer and put a few of my favourites in the basket too

While browsing the beers something caught my eye, Pohjala porter at 7.8% and flavoured with bourbon coffee and sweetened with milk sugar which I assume to be lactose.

Quite effervescent through the pour but absolutely no head retention, three or four seconds after the pour there was no head whatever, not even a few bubbles round the edge. Dense black colour - even when the glass was tilted over a bright white background only a thin halo of dark brown could be seen around the edge of the black beer.

Aroma is coffee, molasses, licorice, and there’s quite an alcoholic kick.

The flavour is the same as the aroma and you can feel it warm your gullet on the way down. The bourbon is evident and smooth, and it’s flavour lingers. Despite being sweetened the beer really isn’t sweet, the lactose balances rather than sweetens the beer.

I like this beer. It’s a nice strong flavourful porter. I bought it as part of a bigger order so didn’t shop around and paid £3.90 from Beer Merchants.

Following up on that really nice porter with my own overly bitter Harlequin. It’s not bad - but it’s not good either!

I’m not one to keep/drink a beer I don’t enjoy but this one is just on the edge so I’ll keep it for now. Lucky for this beer I’m not brewing at the moment and don’t need the keg.

Drinking a centennial ipa today, it's getting those soapy floral aromas. Quite drinkable though.
