Good Morning all,

I'm looking to buy a boil kettle in the next week or so to finally start my all grain journey.

I'm a buy it once kind of bloke so I'm thinking 15gal SS Brewpot (assuming 10gal will be too close for a 10gal boil?) and it will be used on a 400mm paella burner.

Are there any recommendations besides the SS Brewtech pots? I'm assuming that you get what you pay for but I'm interested to see if there are any alternatives.

Cheers

few things worth considering

How much wort in the FV are you looking to get?

Do bare in mind 10 Gallons is going to be about 45kg that is some serious weight.

How are you going to brew / mash ect

Just some things to consider before you buy something

Thanks for the reply.

I plan to brew with the 3 teir setup initially (with a pump being added later) and will be mostly doing 5gal batches but would rather buy once so am looking to future proof the bigger purchases for when I do want to brew bigger batches. I already have a couple of 10gal mash tuns to use for mashing / hlt.

TBH I've still got plenty to learn but if it's a simple case of paying an extra 15 quid now rather than 180 for a bigger pot later, I wondered why not?! I.e. are there any disadvantages to the pot being too big and are the more expensive options really that much better?

I just taken the plunge spent my pennies and got an new adapted powell 100l brewpot (Bergland). https://powellbrewing.co.uk/product-category/stockpots/
I got it fitted with 3 x 40mm holes for my triclamp ferrules. Great price and service! I have two 2.5kw triclamp low watt density immersion heaters to fit and tc tap from my 50l BIAB set up. I also have a mesh false bottom and just got 100mm x10mm ss bolts to raise the fb above the elements. Now got a Smartpid and 50A SSD. Planning to use my Biab bag inside and recirculate, just to make it easier to get the spent grain out.

I'm currently sorting insulation for the pot and welcome suggestions!

I'm also thinking of using my 50l pot as a hop whirlpool on the induction hob, at some time in the future as a type of decoction mash. Just worried about maximum limits on pump temperatures,,, and finding time to brew now the tourist season is here

Sounds awesome dude! A tad large for my needs but it'd be cool to see the setup once complete.

I'm thinking that I'll stick with 10gal batches at the most really, the 15 gal pot is more to leave plenty of room to avoid boilovers etc. Or is there space allowed for this in the 10 gal pot?

I reckon if I plumped for 20gal pot and the associated pumps needed straight away, the missus would boil me in it ashock1

Aye, It's taken some persuading,,, However, as I sell most of my brews my partner was persuaded by the additional brewing income, and it generally keeps me out of trouble,,, She has a new stained glass studio to balance it all up:hat:
I'm going for the posh up-cycled camping mat as pot insulation!
