I think allot of what you discussed shows that you can play with words conversationally and people will understand - just because you might say 'fairly unique' doesn't mean the conversation will come to an ubrupt halt because you can't literally grasp what has been said. These posts are sounding a bit intolerent, or is it me not picking up on the light heartedness of it all.

What annoys me is people correcting minor nuances in a conversation and then you lose the track - is it just a way to bring it back to them - narcissists, am I doing it now 😀

Oh no! That bullcrap speak is rife! Going forward...I hate that rubbish!
Cherry picking,touching base,liaising (spelling?),glass ceilings...utter rubbish!
Then go around pointing the finger at people saying they aren't committed 🙄 just because their idea of commitment is going home and setting fire to their house because the boss told them to. Also being tasked with things to do in meetings...and NEVER EVER doing it..and never challenged.
Ever watched those meetings where all the yesmen sit there, finger on chin, doing that over appreciative nodding at the one spouting the ****? Tossers...
I've retired now, but when I was in work, if anyone suggested touching base I would tell them that the only person who will be touching my base is my wife.

Years ago we were tendering for some new software and had invited three companies to come in to present their proposals to us. Their faces were a picture when we told them that they would have to put £5 in the swear jar every time they used the word "leverage" in their presentation.

Woops

Since we're complaining about things, having fun at it or whatever doing it, there is one sentence I hear that makes me want to roll my eyes: We're pregnant.
No, they're not. She is pregnant. He is not pregnant. He can't get pregnant. He can be a good partner and dad and that's it.
The line is just too sentimental for me.

Arrrgh.
You make the point very well by subtly slipping in a horror: "to task sb with st to do". Arrgh and double arrrghh. What's wrong with "giving somebody a task" or "giving sb st to do"? Since when is task a verb?
"Gifting" is another one. You give someone a gift, you don't "gift them something"!
As for the gammon two doors down from where I used to live who would regularly go "blood doning" !!!!!! Note the use of multiple exclamation marks for emphasis and having got marmalade on the keyboard a couple of days ago.

We should start a campaign for proper English so that people can talk it proper like what we do.
It's just the way we're brung up to talk proper.

Unless he wants to be called Loretta, in which case he can have the right to have babies.....

There’s a growing number of people who seem to think it’s “and I” all the time and that “and me” is always wrong.
I remember being taught to take away the other person’s name from the sentence and see whether it would make sense.

My pet hate at the moment is the use of "Me Personally" that really does boil my p**s and unfortunate its seems to be the latest trend.

The other one has been around quite a while and its the use of the word like -

According to my dictionary they essentially mean the same thing except that sanitise is mostly applied to toilets.

One kills most germs the other all of them -

Sterilization
Sterilization is a process typically used by professionals in settings such as hospitals.

While disinfecting gets rid of most germs, sterilization removes all microorganisms — including those that aren’t harmful. Sterilization is common in medical facilities, but it may also be helpful for businesses and schools that want to get rid of germs in entire rooms.

Methods of sterilization may include:

  • pressurized steam (autoclaving)
  • hydrogen peroxide gas
  • ethylene oxide (EtO) gas
  • ionizing radiation (typically used for medical equipment)
  • dry heat cabinets (for medical instruments)
  • infrared radiation
  • advanced filtration
Sanitizing

Sanitizing is another method of removing dirt and killing germs that’s often confused with sterilizing.

While sterilization gets rid of all germs, sanitizing aims to lower the amount to a safe level. The process of sanitizing can involve both cleaning and disinfecting.

It’s also worth mentioning that while hand sanitizers may not eliminate all germs, they’re good to have on-hand until you have access to warm water and soap to properly wash your hands.
